The nib Newcastle Knights are proud to announce OzHarvest Newcastle as their February Charity of the Month, recognising their vital work in rescuing surplus food and delivering it to local charities.
The Knights can also confirm OzHarvest Newcastle as a beneficiary of the ClubGRANTs program, with the charity receiving $18,000 of crucial funding from the Knights and Wests Group.
This generous contribution will allow OzHarvest to deliver an additional 36,000 meals to individuals and families struggling with food insecurity in the Newcastle community.
"Our ClubGRANTs contributes to the provision of one of five vans, which delivers thousands of meals to our local community," Wests Group and Knights director Katie Brassil said.

February Charity of the Month | OzHarvest Newcastle
"We're very proud to support this great organisation."
OzHarvest is dedicated to ‘Nourishing our Country’ by ensuring good quality food does not go to waste, instead reaching those who need it most.
Operating year-round, OzHarvest Newcastle’s fleet of yellow vans serves over 18 local suburbs, including Cooks Hill, Mayfield, Wallsend, and Waratah.
Their mission is simple but powerful: to provide nutritious meals to vulnerable individuals and families through free food deliveries to charities and community organisations.
Sarah Roxby, OzHarvest Newcastle's Northern NSW Engagement and Culture Lead, was candid in describing the impact of the donation on the Charity.
"We couldn't do what we do here without donations like this," Roxby said.
"The need out there is greater than ever, and people are really suffering.
"It really does make a huge difference to what we can do."
Currently, in the Newcastle Local Government Area (LGA) alone, OzHarvest supports 30 charities, ensuring they receive regular food deliveries.
However, with food insecurity on the rise, 75% of these charities report a growing demand for food assistance. Without OzHarvest’s critical food rescue service, nearly 10,000 vulnerable community members would face hunger.
In 2024, OzHarvest Newcastle delivered over 2.6 million meals across the wider region and is striving to surpass this milestone in 2025.
Their dedicated team works tirelessly to keep up with demand, ensuring food that would otherwise go to waste is redirected to those who need it most.
