Knights support Women in Crisis

Got Your Back Sista’s 'One-on-One Domestic Violence Support' program is crucial in providing vital assistance to women experiencing domestic violence.

The Newcastle Knights & Wests Group, through the ClubGRANTs initiative, are proud to contribute $15,000 to expand this essential service.

"The Wests Group are so pleased and honoured that we can help," Wests Group Chairman Geoff Coburn said.

"We're proud to be able to do that through our ClubGRANTs program."

Domestic violence is a pervasive issue, affecting one in four Australian women and driving many into poverty. Got Your Back Sista has seen a significant increase in women seeking help, often traumatised and unsure of where to start.

"Domestic violence is something that impacts us all," Knights halfback Jesse Southwell said.

"I think it's super important that we have organisations like Got Your Back Sista.

"It's amazing to see our Club is going the extra mile for our community."

The program offers practical help, including legal, housing, and crisis support, as well as emotional support through the recovery journey.

Funding from the Newcastle Knights and Wests Group will help an additional 35 women in the Newcastle area access these vital services.

"For Wests to support and fund this program means the world to us," Got Your Back Sista CEO Melissa Histon said.

"It means we can support and help so many more vulnerable women in our community."

With qualified caseworkers providing risk assessment, safety planning, counselling, and advocacy, the program empowers women to rebuild their lives.

This support is a step toward breaking the cycle of domestic violence and fostering a safer community.
