nib Newcastle Knights NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries has added another New Zealand Rugby International to his 2024 National Rugby League Women’s premiership squad, securing the signature of Rugby Sevens Tokyo Olympic Games Gold Medallist Tenika Willison, on a two-year deal.
Willison, 26, will join the Knights immediately after completing her current International commitments for New Zealand, having also made her International debut for the New Zealand Black Ferns Fifteen against Australia in June 2023.
Head Coach Jeffries shared his excitement about adding the talented back to his 2024 squad.
“Tenika brings a wealth of International experience, including Olympic and Commonwealth games, along with 86 National Rugby Sevens appearances around the world,” said Jeffries.
“We have been impressed with her professional mindset, when you combine that with an extensive football skillset and willingness to play anywhere in the backline, we believe Tenika will instantly further develop our evolving playing group.
“With her ability to play anywhere in the backline, Tenika adds great depth to our squad and quality across the park, creating even more healthy competition for places in our 2024 campaign.”
The roster position became available due to an unfortunate season ending knee injury suffered by Tamerah Leati during pre-season training. Tamerah will commence her rehabilitation program once surgery has been completed.
