Knights lock in NRLW locals

nib Newcastle Knights NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries has confirmed the signature of three local players to contract extensions, leading into the 2024 National Rugby League Women’s premiership kick-off next Thursday, 25 July against the Roosters at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Promising Muswellbrook teenager Evie Jones has continued her upward trajectory, progressing through our Tarsha Gale pathways programs and into the NRLW top 24 for this season after extending her Knights contract until at least the end of 2027.

Jones, 19, provides Head Coach Jeffries with versality and competition within the Knights squad.

Knights launch season in style

“Evie has established herself as a half who is willing to learn and compete with the likes of Jesse Southwell and Georgia Roche,” said Jeffries.

“Through the back end of the Tarsha Gale season and representative teams this year, Evie also added dummy half qualities to her game, showcasing her potential to become a genuine utility player.

“We now look forward to developing Evie into a long-term Knights player and we are delighted to secure her future at the club for a further three seasons.”

Jeffries also confirmed Romaniuk’s signature is a vital piece of the puzzle.

“Being a two-time winning premiership player and a local from Kurri Kurri, Kayla has always been a priority re-signing for our Club,” said Jeffries.

“We believe Kayla will achieve higher honours, possessing a great skill set that sets her apart from others, including late footwork and offloads, which brings a diversity to our current pack and potential representative teams in the future.”

These signings will further compliment the key signing of pack leader and multiple premierships winning forward Tayla Predebon, who also committed until the end of 2026 earlier this year.
