Lucas nominated for Ken Stephen Medal

Dylan Lucas has been officially confirmed as the nib Newcastle Knights' nomination for the 2024 Ken Stephen Medal, in a terrific recognition for his tireless commitment to work in the community.

The annual Ken Stephen Medal recognises the efforts of a NRL player who has committed time off the field to make an impactful difference in charity work, youth development and/or community support. A player is selected by their NRL Club, as a role model within this space. You can vote for Dylan to win the award here.

Lucas, a proud Wiradjuri man, is deeply committed to charity work, youth development, and community support through his Club commitments. His notable contributions include:

  • Participation in the Newcastle Knights' Reconciliation Action Plan launch in November 2023, emphasising his dedication to cultural awareness and unity.
  • Providing personalised video messages to school students, offering guidance and encouragement to support their educational and personal growth.
  • Actively supporting the NRL School to Work (S2W) program, having been a participant himself, and engages in events like the Knights Youth Summit Presentation to empower youth.
  • Participated in visiting local schools with the NRL squad to deliver educational sessions, promoting Rugby League and supporting youth development.
  • Visiting John Hunter Children’s Hospital before Easter to spread cheer among young patients, enhancing their morale and well-being. Further, Dylan joined the full squad to visit the Children’s Hospital ahead of the Christmas holiday period.
  • Organising the painting and design of players' boots for the Knights' Indigenous Round, collaborating with Cultural Choice to raise awareness and support the prevention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth suicide.
  • Involved in a NSW Police program for at-risk youth, where he shared his personal experiences to inspire and encourage participants. 
  • Along with other Indigenous players, visiting local schools in Tamworth during personal time to engage with students and promote community involvement.
  • Frequently supports Knights Centre of Excellence tours for school groups, sharing insights from his journey to becoming an NRL player and highlighting an elite athlete's training regime.
