Ultimate Guide: NRL Round 10 preview

The nib Newcastle Knights will travel north-west to Tamworth this Saturday, tackling the Wests Tigers.

Silverware is on the line between the two Clubs along with another vital two points heading into the midway point of the season.

The two coaches have named their squads, who will do battle at Scully Park.

TEAM NEWS

UPDATE: In one change to the line-up, Jacob Saifiti (leg) comes out of the side due to injury and is replaced by Jack Hetherington on the bench.

TUESDAY: Tyson Frizell and Jacob Saifiti have been named to return to the side this weekend.

Prop Leo Thompson is set to notch his 50th game for the Club when the team run out to play the Tigers.

For the Tigers, Jayden Sullivan takes over at halfback from the suspended Aidan Sezer, while skipper Api Koroisau is back on deck after missing Round 9. Jake Simpkin goes to the bench.

Star Toa returns for his first game since Round 2 so Brent Naden goes to the wing and Solomon Aiaimalo drops out. 

OPEN TRAINING SESSION

The Knights NRL squad will host an open training session next Friday, May 10 in Tamworth.

All Knights Members and supporters are encouraged to come along and watch the team at their Captain's Run as they prepare to take on the Tigers on Saturday.

The team will finish their Round 10 preparations at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School, with the session kicking off at 9am and wrapping up an hour later at 10am.

All attendees are encouraged to stick around for a quick photo or autograph after the session, and meet the boys in red and blue.

ALLAN MCMAHON SHIELD

The Knights and Wests Tigers will pay tribute to the life and career of Allan McMahon by contesting for the Allan McMahon Shield this Saturday.

McMahon had a strong affiliation with both clubs having played 110 first grade game at the Balmain Tigers between 1975 and 1981.

He later became the inaugural coach of the Newcastle Knights in 1988.

McMahon paved the way for the Knights in their introduction to the league in '88 and laid the foundations that would bear fruits in years to come.

The Knights and Tigers will remember an inspiring figure of both clubs and continue his legacy.

FORM GUIDE

The Knights notched a second consecutive win following a 14-8 result over the Warriors last start.

The side sit in 11th spot on the ladder with a 4-5 record from the opening nine games.

Meanwhile, the Tigers were defeated by the Bulldogs last start 22-14.

KEY MATCH-UP 

Adam Elliott v Isaiah Papali'i: The forward pack battle is set to rock Tamworth this Saturday and the two No.13's will go toe-to-toe.

Elliott has been at his consistent best in 2024 with his trademark toughness and tenacity in the middle.

The Knights No.13 has averaged 93 run metres while Papali'i has also averaged 93 run metres.

STAT ATTACK

The Knights have won two out of four games at Scully Park.

Leo Thompson will run out for game 50 in the NRL.

Tyson Gamble has scored two tries in his last two games.
