Pathways Report: Juniors battle it out against the Bulldogs

The Junior Representative seasons continued into Round 2 over the weekend.

The Knights junior men's sides (SG Ball Cup and Harold Matthews Cup) faced the Bulldogs pathways sides at Cessnock Sportsground while the junior women's squads (Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup) travelled down to Sydney to also play the Dogs.

Meanwhile, the Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights played the Northern Tigers at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday.

SG Ball Cup | Knights 26-28 Bulldogs

The SG Ball Cup side have gone down by two points to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday.

In a back-and-forth battle, the Dogs scored a late try with four minutes to play to take the two points.

The Under 19 Knights were off to a fast start when Sosaia Latu scored in the first minute before five-eighth Fletcher Hunt notched a double inside the opening 15 minutes.

The side led 16-8 at half-time, although the Bulldogs would strike back after the break with two tries of their own in the 39th and 49th minute.

The two outfits would trade tries in the remaining minutes of the game with Cody Hopwood and Harley Walker crossing for the red and blue.

With the Bulldogs leading by two, the Knights through their attack at the away side's defence in the closing stages but couldn't grab the decisive try.

Tarsha Gale Cup | Knights 6-12 Bulldogs

The Tarsha Gale Cup squad have gone down by six points to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Hammondville Oval on Saturday.

Knights winger Lacey Mitchell opened the scoring inside the opening minutes.

The Bulldogs responded four minutes later to bridge the gap to two points.

After a grinding opening half, the Under 19 women's side led by two at half-time.

The Bulldogs would score two tries of their own in the second half to run out victors.

Next round, the Tarsha Gale Cup will face the Wests Tigers at St Johns Oval, Charlestown this Saturday.

Harold Matthews Cup | Knights 20-24 Bulldogs

The Harold Matthews Cup side have been defeated by four points by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday.

The side trailed 24-6 at the change of ends after the Dogs scored five tries in the opening half.

Knights dummy-half Diesel Hagan scored a brilliant solo try with a kick and chase into the in-goal to get the Knights on the board in the first half.

Chasing 18 points in the second half, the side showed plenty of fight to work their way into the game.

Fletcher Sommerville scored a double while Jack Thompson also got his name on the scoresheet with a quality chip and chase effort.

However, the side just fell short of a comeback win, eventually going down by four points.

The Knights Lisa Fiaola Cup squad were defeated by the Bulldogs on Saturday at Hammondville Oval.

The Knights scored three tries to the Bulldogs eight.

Maronay Smuts scored her second try of the season while Macey Cox and Breanna Rawlins also notched four-pointers.

The side will face the Wests Tigers next start at St Johns Oval, Charlestown this Saturday looking to pick up their first win of the season.

The Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights squad were defeated by the Northern Tigers at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday.

The Tigers scored six tries to the Knights two with Ralph Binge grabbing a double for Newcastle-Maitland.

The Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights Andrew Johns Cup squad scored a 12-point win over the Northern Tigers at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday.

The side scored five tries to three with Chip Valentish, Kade Paton, Chase Butler, Heath Connell and Billy Toms getting over the try-line for the Knights.

The result is the second win on the trot for the side ahead of their Round 3 clash against the North Coast Bulldogs next round at Port Macquarie.
