Knights earn back-to-back home win with victory over the Warriors

The nib Newcastle Knights have notched their third win of the 2023 campaign with a 34-24 victory over the Warriors at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights shot out of the blocks to lead 22-6 at half-time in front of a pumped up Novocastrian crowd of just over 18,000.

The Warriors staged a comeback in the second half, however the Knights would hold strong to claim a six tries to four victory and second consecutive win at home.

HOW IT PLAYED OUT:

1st min - The match kicked off in front of 18,007 members and supporters at the home of the Knights.

6th - The Knights were off to a flyer with Dom Young opening the scoring for the red and blue in the opening stages.

Quick hands from Dane Gagai found the Englishman and the winger powered over the line to continue his scoring spree.

9th minute - Edward Kosi looked destined to score after grabbing an intercept, but desperate cover defence from Tyson Frizell and Lachlan Miller stopped the Warriors winger.

19th min - Greg Marzhew scored again for the third consecutive game showing his strength in the left corner.

A brilliant flick pass from Bradman Best freed up the No.5 and Marzhew bulldozed his way over.

22nd min - The Warriors scored their first of the night through centre Adam Pompey after a short ball from Shaun Johnson.

29th min - Tyson Frizell had our third of the game after picking up the scraps from a high ball.

36th min - Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad looked to have scored for the Warriors, but the try was overruled for obstruction.

37th min - In a sensational move before half-time, the Knights scored their fourth of the half.

After a Phoenix Crossland high kick in field, the ball made its way to Bradman Best who again put boot to ball. Crossland backed up on the inside to ground the ball in the in-goal.

40th min - After a brilliant opening half of footy, the Knights took a 22-6 lead into the break.

50th min - Pompey had his second of the night for the Warriors as the away side reduced the deficit to 10 with 30 to play.

56th min - The Warriors were back to within four when Edward Kosi scored in the corner.

65th min - Kurt Mann extended the red and blue's advantage, burrowing over close to the posts.

Miller added the extras from in front to put our lead back out to 10 points heading into the final stages.

70th min - Greg Marzhew sealed the result and the second consecutive home victory with his second try of the night.

Another set move down the left found the winger and Marzhew stepped his way inside to cross the line.
