The nib Newcastle Knights have today agreed to release hooker Chris Randall from the final year of his current contract, effective immediately, to allow him to take up a multi-year deal with the Gold Coast Titans.
Knights’ management agreed to the release after close consideration of all factors, including Randall’s service to the club since making his National Rugby League debut in 2020.
Randall’s departure sees Titans outside back Greg Marzhew move to the Knights on a three-year deal, commencing this coming season.
25-year-old Marzhew has scored 15 tries in 25 National Rugby League matches since his debut against the Melbourne Storm in round 15, 2021.
In addition to this 60% strike rate, Marzhew led the NRL for tackle breaks made by a winger in 2022.
Knights Director of Football Peter Parr said while the Knights were initially reluctant to see Randall go, on balance the move made sense for all parties.
“We were hesitant to release Chris from his contract, however after listening to his reasons, we were prepared to grant the release on the proviso we could achieve a suitable outcome for the Knights in return,” Parr said.
“Another outside back further balances our squad and in the end this exchange works well for all parties.
“Greg has proven to be a strong presence on the wing with great potential and plenty of upside.”
The Knights look forward to welcoming Greg to the Newcastle community in coming days.
The club extends its appreciation to Chris for his service to the club and wishes him all the very best for his future endeavours.
