The nib Newcastle Knights are pleased to announce the re-signing of inaugural NRLW Captain Romy Teitzel for the upcoming 2022 season.
Earlier this year, Teitzel played a pivotal role in the Knights first NRLW campaign, leading her teammates onto the field for the rescheduled 2021 season, which was moved due to COVID-19.
The dynamic and powerful speedster played fullback in all five games, exhibiting game-breaking skills, versality and significant leadership qualities to guide the Knights on their maiden voyage.
Teitzel created a special piece of history by scoring the Knights first-ever try in the Round 1 fixture against the Parramatta Eels, then going on to make 20 tackle breaks and averaging 138 running metres per game in her five appearances in the NRLW.
The North Queensland junior is looking forward to pulling on the red and blue jersey for another season with the Knights.
“I’m very excited to return to Newcastle to play for the Knights, especially in front of the passionate members and fans who have embraced the NRLW at McDonald Jones Stadium," Teitzel said.
“The roster we are building is full of experience, character, and strong work ethic, which are all essential qualities for any successful team and I can’t wait to play with them.”
The 23-year-old has also led her hometown team, the North Queensland Gold Stars, for the past two seasons in the Queensland Rugby League’s BHP Premiership, picking up the 2021 season Player of the Year award.
Romy is currently playing for the Gold Stars and will link up with the Knights squad for the new season, set down to start in August 2022.
