Rookie Report: Two teams earn entry into the semi-finals

In this week's Rookie Report, we take a look at the nib Newcastle Knights pathways teams in the Knock-On-Effect NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg Cup, SG Ball Cup, Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup and Harold Matthews Cup competitions.

The two senior teams - NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg - took on the Sea Eagles in Round 5 of their respective competitions while the Junior Rep sides completed their final round against the Panthers.

NSW Cup - Knights 14-24 Sea Eagles

The NSW Cup side went down by 10 points to the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles at Newcastle No.2 Sports Ground on Sunday.

The side held a 10-0 lead during the lead, but let it slip to receive their third loss in a row.

The team started fast with Brayden Musgrove scoring an early try in the 4th minute mark.

Dylan Phythian had the Knights second nine minutes before half-time to take the 10-point lead into the break.

The Sea Eagles struck back 12 minutes into the second half before scoring another three tries in a 16-minute blitz.

Nicholas O'Meley scored a late consolation try for the Knights, but it wasn't enough for the red and blue.

Tex Hoy ran for a team-high 181 metres at five-eight along with a try-assist and one line-break.

Honeti Tuha also had a strong performance on the wing running for 138 metres and had five tackle breaks.

The NSW Cup side will take on the Bulldogs next round at Belmore Sports Ground this Saturday.

Jersey Flegg Cup - Knights 20-0 Sea Eagles

The Jersey Flegg Cup side produced a shut-out, 20-point win over the Sea Eagles last Thursday night.

In a curtain-raiser for the NRL game, the Flegg side ran in four tries to nil in an impressive display in tough conditions at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Winger, Travhon Lemalama, scored first for the Knights of a set play from the scrum feed.

A short side raid on the other wing had Keanu Wainohu-Kemp diving over for the Knights second 10 minutes after half-time.

Cooper Jenkins and Lemalama scored tries in the final 10 minutes to secure the result for the red and blue.

The win moves the Flegg side up to fourth spot on the ladder with three wins from five starts.

The team will take on the Bulldogs in Round 6 at Belmore Sports Ground this Saturday.

SG Ball Cup - Knights 32-18 Panthers

The SG Ball Cup side continued their good form with a solid 14-point win over the Penrith Panthers at Maitland Sports Ground last Saturday.

In a battle for second spot, the team scored six tries to the Panthers four to earn their third win a row and secure a semi-finals berth.

Ethan Ferguson opened the scoring for Newcastle four minutes into the contest before Noah Nailagoliva crossed the stripe on the 16th minute mark.

Fletcher Sharpe scored the Knights third try four minutes later as the Knights raced out to an early lead.

Penrith hit back with two tries of their own either side of the half-time siren.

Penrith then took the lead when they scored five minutes after half-time.

Cooper Bigeni put the Knights back in front with a try on the 47th minute mark.

In the last fifteen minutes, Nailagoliva and Ferguson scored their second tries of the match to seal the victory for the Knights.

The SG Ball side finished the regular season in second spot with six wins and one defeat.

The team has earned a week off to advance straight to the second week of the finals.

Tarsha Gale Cup - Knights 50-4 Panthers

The Tarsha Gale Cup side scored a huge 46-point win over the Penrith Panthers on Saturday at Maitland Sports Ground.

The team ran in nine tries to one to cement a spot in the finals after another incredible campaign for the side.

Sophie Clancy scored in the opening minute to get the red and blue off to the best possible start.

In another dominant first half display, the team scored another five tries through  Kasey Gaukroger (two), another to Clancy and one each to Tori Brazier and Ebony Woodcock.

Leading 34-0 at half-time, the match was all but wrapped up.

The Panthers scored one after the break, but it was the Tarsha Gale side's day running in another three tries courtesy of a Mia Middleton double and Madison Marmion.

The side finished the regular season in third spot with five wins, one draw and one loss.

They will take on the St George Illawarra Dragons this Friday in an elimination final kicking off at 3:15pm, Ringrose Park, Sydney.

Harold Matthews Cup - Knights 16-42 Panthers

The Harold Matthews side finished their regular season campaign with a 26-point loss to the Panthers.

The Panthers scored seven tries to the Knights three at Maitland Sports Ground on Saturday.

Benjamin Geary, Jye Linnane and Jarred Williams got over for the red and blue during the game.

The Harold Matthews side finished the season in 12th spot with two wins and five losses.
