The nib Newcastle Knights have officially launched their 2022 home and away jerseys. Both jerseys are available for pre order now, with all orders made before the 8th December due to arrive before Christmas.
For the first time since 2011, the Knights will be debuting all new home and away jersey designs for the new season.
The design inspiration for 2022 was to create a ‘Modern Armour’ built for a bold new chapter for the club.
The traditional red stripes have headed in a new direction to form a chevron, nodding back to the 2001 premiership jersey design which featured a distinct ‘v’ shape.
A mesh chain-mail print has been subtly sublimated into the fabric to represent a powerful and dynamic skin that forms into arrows, reinforcing players momentum.
Both jerseys were designed in collaboration with players and staff, including Kalyn Ponga and General Manager of Football Danny Buderus.
“We are really excited about the new look jersey,” Buderus said.
“This new design coincides with some key changes within the club and new direction for 2022.
“We are all looking forward to seeing the players run back onto McDonald Jones Stadium in front of our loyal members and supporters in this striking new jersey. We would love the team to be greeted by a sea of these new jerseys on the backs of our members and supporters who have stuck solid over the past couple of years.
“The jersey pays homage to the past, whilst embracing the way forward with the latest technology in design and marketing. We couldn’t be happier with the final product.”
Having had his say in the design process, Ponga said he couldn’t wait to pull on the jersey come Round One.
“I think the jersey looks great,” Ponga said.
“Being able to add some of my creativity, along with the rest of the boys, is something we’re really thankful to be a part of.
“Starting the new year in the new kit is exciting and I can’t wait to wear it in 2022.”
Developed by O’Neills, the jerseys will be applied with their K40 Lite technology. The fabric will be enhanced lightweight with breathable properties.
O’Neills Sales Manager, James Muir, said the state-of-the-art composition will allow the players to perform at their absolute best week in, week out with the most up to date and advanced kit in the NRL.
“This jersey not only looks amazing but has been developed to give the players the most functional fit on game day,” he said.
“The new generation fabric helps to regulate body temperature to keep the players cool and dry while optimising performance.
“I know everyone at O’Neills are incredibly pleased with the jersey and we can’t wait to see it on the team next season.”
