The nib Newcastle Knights are delighted to announce the retention of Lachlan Fitzgibbon on a two-year contract extension.
The talented back rower, who is now seven seasons into his NRL career, said he was stoked to secure his future and remain a one-Club player.
“I’ve been with the Club now since 2013, I’m a Novocastrian boy and I couldn’t see myself playing in any other colours,” Fitzgibbon said.
“We’re starting to see the improvement of our squad over the last two years with Adam and we’re looking at some bigger and better things in the near future."
A hard running edge forward who gets through plenty of work, Fitzgibbon will continue to provide depth and skill to an impressive Knights pack.
With the ability to punch through holes and hit as hard as most, the South Newcastle junior adds an extra dimension to the Knights attack and has formed formidable combinations with both Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga.
Fitzy's locked in
Following an injury-interrupted 2021, Fitzgibbon will be fresh and raring to go next season with plenty of experience now under his belt.
Knights Head of Recruitment, Clint Zammit, said he was pleased to see the local junior lock in his future at the Club.
“It’s great to keep a local junior at the Club who has been here since he was 15 years old,” Zammit said.
“Lachlan has come through the grades and progressed to the NRL level, and we are very pleased he’s agreed to stay with the Club for the next two years.”
Fitzgibbon’s new deal will see him remain a Knight until at least the end of the 2023 season.
