It’s another big round of NRL action this weekend and club legend Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns once again has you covered if you need help with your weekly tips.
In his new series previewing and reviewing every single nib Newcastle Knights game in 2020, the Eighth Immortal will also be providing his tips for all eight games, every round.
Panthers v Rabbitohs
Joey’s Tip: Panthers
“Panthers are my specials,” Joey said about the opening match of the round.
Penrith stunned Melbourne last weekend with a tight victory and the Great Man has once again tipped them to extend their streak against a Rabbitohs side who only moved into the top eight last week.
Storm v Warriors
Joey’s Tip: Storm
Joey was quick to pick the Storm in this one, predicting them to bounce back after suffering a loss last weekend.
The Warriors have shown struggles since returning to the field for 2020 and despite the fact that teams can often show spirit after the sacking of the coach, the two-time Premiership winning halfback has gone against them.
Roosters v Dragons
Joey’s Tip: Roosters
It’s the fixture that usually takes place as an ANZAC Day treat and although it’ll be taking place a little later than usual, these traditional rivals always showcase a great tussle.
The defending premiers have been showing terrific form since the return from the break though and Joey is tipping them to walk over the Dragons this Friday.
Cowboys v Knights
Joey’s Tip: Knights
Last weekend, an inexperienced North Queensland were dismantled in the first half by an energetic Tigers side and Johns has predicted a fourth consecutive loss for the Cowboys at the hands of his former team.
The win would see our boys potentially move to the top of the ladder depending on other results.
Broncos v Titans
Joey’s Tip: Titans
Following a string of poor performances, Joey is tipping a major upset against the Broncos in their upcoming all-Queensland derby.
The Titans have only managed one victory so far in 2020, but the Eighth Immortal is going with the current wooden spoon favourites to topple their ‘big brother’ club.
Eels v Raiders
Tip: Eels
It may just be the match of the round as the ladder-leading Eels face-off with a Raiders side many pegged as premiership contenders.
With the match being played at Bankwest Stadium, Joey is picking the hosts, Parramatta, to continue their reign in first place.
Manly v Sharks
Tip: Manly
The Sharks travel to the Central Coast this week to face Manly and although they’ve lost Tom Trbojevic, they gain Jorge Taufua and Martin Taupau back.
Those two inclusions were major plusses in Joey’s book and for that reason he’s going with the Sea Eagles.
Bulldogs v Tigers
Tip: Tigers
Tigers were brutal in their first half performance last weekend and Joey is predicting more of the same when they come up against one of their rivals.
The Bulldogs sit in second-last spot having won one game this season, while the Tigers are aching to be inside the top eight and a win this weekend could just move them inside.
