Director of Football, Mr Brian Canavan will depart the nib Newcastle Knights in early 2020 after resigning from his position.
Mr Canavan will continue to work with the Club until the end of February.
Having joined the Club from the NRL in late 2018, Mr Canavan has played a key role in several significant changes at the Club including establishing Club programs and policies, advancing Club structures, the appointment of a new coach, as well as completing a thorough review of the Club’s operations.
While Mr Canavan is not retiring, he will take a much-earned break before exploring opportunities.
“After careful consideration, I feel that the time is right,” Mr Canavan said.
“We have made exceptional progress across all delivery areas from juniors to the senior’s program and that will only strengthen in the coming years.
“While looking forward to the next phase, I will transition until the end February next year.
“I have enjoyed the journey and met some wonderful rugby league people at the Club.
“The future is very bright for the Knights, and I wish Adam O’Brien, the staff and players every success.”
Following Mr Canavan’s decision, Knights CEO Mr Philip Gardner reported to the board last week.
The Knights will be advertising for a replacement with a goal of having the successful candidate appointed prior to Mr Canavan’s departure.

Knights CEO, Mr Philip Gardner said; “Brian has done a wonderful job of stabilising our Club.
“While it has been a short period of time, he has achieved a lot. His input and impact has been invaluable and set the Club on course for success.
“We are all sad to see BC go but accept the decision he has made and wish him nothing but the best.”
