Wet and greasy conditions proved difficult for both sides at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday but desperation in defence led the Jersey Flegg Knights to a 22-6 win over the Tigers.
Second rower Ben Talty kicked off the scoring in the first minute of the match, before the Tigers returned fire with a try from the Tigers’ Logen Dillon.
In one of his best games of the year, Daniel Ticehurst dived over for the red and blue 10 minutes in to record his first try for the season and put the Knights back in front.
The soggy conditions produced some inconsistent plays from both teams which saw no points for the rest of the half.
But desperation in defence was the Knights saving grace as they aggressively defended the line and saved numerous tries.
In the second half, Knights centre Matthew Moon slammed down for a try in the 48th minute, followed by a double from Talty seven minutes later.
Bayden Searle was steady on the kick for the Knights and slotted three from four conversions.
A drenched Knights prevailed with a comfortable 22-6 win.
