The Harold Matthews Representative Team recorded a 16-6 win over the NSW Country Under-16’s, in what was a hard-fought contest at Penrith Stadium on Friday afternoon.
With both sides working hard in defence through the middle, the first points of the match went to Harold Matthews winger Turoa Williams in the right-hand corner 20 minutes into the first half.
The Harold Matthews Representative Side crossed eight minutes later through centre Fletcher Myers in the left-hand corner just before the half-time siren.
Both kicks from Jonah Pezet were unsuccessful, which took the half-time score to 8-0.
NSW Country hit back in the second half through Oskar Bryant, who scooted from dummy half to score under the posts. Halfback Thomas Weaver converted to take the Country side to 6 points.
Bulldogs Representative Paul Alamoti scored next for Harold Matthews in the right corner to put his side in front 12-6.
Newcastle Representative Lachlan Crouch put the icing on the cake for the Harold Matthews, scoring just before the full-time siren to take the final score to 16-6. Both teams should be congratulated for their efforts.
Following the match a NSW squad will be chosen to face an Under-16s Pasifika team on Sunday 9 June.
