Rugby League fans will have an easy time getting to Newcastle Knights home games thanks to free, dedicated bus services that will run to McDonald Jones Stadium during the 2019 season.
McDonald Jones Stadium, the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Transport have partnered in a first for fans and the region to ensure Knights’ events are accessible to every fan.
NSW Sports Minister, Stuart Ayres said the new service will allow fans to come from all over the region to watch the Knights send their opposition packing.
“This is an exciting first for local fans, who will be able to travel from Newcastle CBD, Charlestown/Belmont, Glendale, Wallsend and Mayfield to travel directly to McDonald Jones Stadium,” Mr Ayres said.
Newcastle Transport buses will operate two hours before kick-off and one hour after full time for every Newcastle Knights home fixture in 2019.
Be The Player: Week 14
All fans need to do is present their event ticket to Newcastle Transport staff to take advantage of these free services.
“Venues NSW are delighted to be able to offer footy fans a simpler way to get to Knights events at McDonald Jones Stadium,” said Venues NSW Chief Executive Officer, Paul Doorn.
“Our partnership with the Newcastle Knights and Newcastle Transport is about putting fans first. With five of the Knights’ first seven games being played at their home stadium, fans can now just focus on enjoying the game experience and leave the car at home.”
Venues NSW and Newcastle Knights are committed to working together to enhance fans’ game day experience from the time they leave home, until the time they get home after a game.
“Providing free bus transport with every ticket or membership helps us to achieve this,” said Newcastle Knights Chief Executive Officer, Philip Gardner.

“We’ve been working collaboratively on this since the end of last season, and I want to commend McDonald Jones Stadium, Venues NSW and Newcastle Transport for their work in making it a reality. Now, from key locations around the city and the wider area, Knights members and supporters can get a free ride right to the team’s front door.”
This service will be up and running for the first Newcastle Knights game on Friday, 15 March 2019 when they face off against the Cronulla Sharks.
