Jones thriving after horror run with injury

After overcoming a brutal run of injuries, Brodie Jones feels ready to take on the upcoming season and push for his NRL debut.

The 20-year-old says he finally feels like he's back to his best after injuries ruled him out for large parts of the 2016-17 seasons.

But with a solid 2018 season under his belt and another pre-season with the first-grade squad, the backrower is optimistic about what the New Year has in store.

ULTIMATE GUIDE FOR 2019

"I am feeling fit and feeling good, it's that time of the year where everyone's sort of feeling pretty fit and ready to go," said Jones.

"I have had stress fractures and then I had to have a shoulder operation, so last year was my first full season without an injury.

"It is good to be back and injury free, touch wood.

"The two years previous to last year I played was maybe 10 games over the two years or so."

Fitz: my spot not guaranteed

A local junior, Jones wants to play first grade in the red and blue.

But Jones knows there is still a lot for him to do in order to earn a spot in the first-grade side, despite being named on the Knights extended squad in Round 23 of the 2018 season.

"Yeah that experience was good," he said.

"I wasn't expecting it but it gives me something to aim for and that's where I want to be, I want to be up there in that top 21, I want to be pushing for the spot.

"A lot of determination and hard work is what is going to be needed.

"My highest level playing in would be Cup, so hopefully I cement a spot there at the start of the year and then to hopefully get a crack at first grade, so that's my goals."
