Number 20: COME FROM BEHIND WIN AGAINST MANLY IN 2006 FINALS – 1.2% of votes
Kurt Gidley’s say: “This was one of the biggest games I played in at home. A home game semi final versus Manly doesn’t get much bigger. I just remember playing five-eighth and following Joey around the park. He was always creating something and sticking close by was a real thrill. I scored 2 tries off Joey that night purely by listening and watching what he was doing.”
At half time the Knights trailed 12-0 to their fiercest rivals, and it wasn’t looking good for the red and blues.
49 minutes in Danny Buderus threw a long pass from dummy-half for Andrew Johns to run over, but four minutes later Steve Matai scored for Manly to take an 18-6 lead.
It was Kurt Gidley’s turn to score in the 60th minute off a Johns short pass, and then seven minutes later he scored another from a Johns ball to level the scores.
The Knights never looked like losing from there, as Jarrod Mullen kicked a field goal soon after and then winger Brian Carney finished the contest off with a try in the corner to make it 25-18.
