Press conference: Daniel Saifiti on Eels trial
nib Newcastle Knights forward Daniel Saifiti admits his emotions are running high as the 21-year-old prepares for his first game back from a shoulder injury when the nib Newcastle Knights take on the Parramatta Eels in a trial match this Saturday.
“There's a few different emotions, but I'm getting more excited,” Saifiti said after training on Tuesday.
“There aren't too many nerves, but it’s been a long pre-season for myself.”
Saifiti only recently returned to full contact at training, and maintains he’s fit and ready to go.
“I wouldn’t play unless I was 100 per cent confident about my shoulder,” Saifiti assured.
“I’m worried about my stamina if anything, but I’ve been doing game related stuff now and I’m pretty confident I’ll do alright.
“I’ve been training with the boys since January doing full contact sessions and I’m definitely confident in my shoulder that it will hold up fine.
The goal for the Saifiti twin, who last year averaged 22 tackles per match, is to put on a show at Saturday’s trial match and convince coach Nathan Brown he’s a sure starter come Round 1.
“Anything can happen in this trial match against Parramatta so to make Round 1 is the first goal, and to make my way into that starting role like I did last year,” Saifiti explained.
“There’s a lot of competition for spots this year and you won’t get away with the same stuff from last year, so everyone is keen to make that team.
“If you play good or bad, that will probably determine if you’re in the 17 first Round, so I’m going to give my best."
