The Newcastle Knights Armoury Club Members, who typify some of the most passionate, fanatical and devoted supporters, rubbed shoulders with the Knights at an exclusive cocktail party on Friday evening.
The far-reaching support base of the Club was on show with Members travelling as far as Adelaide, Townville and Brisbane to attend the event at Wests Mayfield.
“It’s humbling when you hear stories of how passionate people are and to hear about how much they love their team and the efforts they go to, to support their team and the players,” captain Kurt Gidley said on the night.
“They support us, they buy their Membership, and they buy their jumpers and merchandise. I think it’s just nice to meet them personally and say thanks to them for their support.
“It makes a big difference to us as players."
The exclusive Armoury Club event saw Coach Wayne Bennett address attendees and thank Members for their support, before a Q and A session on stage with captain Kurt Gidley and Jarrod Mullen.
A highlight for the Armoury Club Members was the players personally presenting each Member with an official 2014-signed Knights jersey and the opportunity to mingle and chat with the them during the night.
Knights Member, Michael was eager to step up his Membership to Armoury Club when it was first launched at the beginning of the 2014 season.
He described himself as massive Knights fan and said to be offered the opportunity to attend the exclusive event and have one-on-one access to speak with the senior playing squad was a definite privilege.
“You get to see the guys are normal people and they are happy to mingle with everybody else,” Michael said.
“It’s good to be able to see what they’re like off the field.”
Fanatical Knights Member, Kellie Davis travelled from Townsville to be a part of the special event.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” she beamed.
“As soon as they organised the Armoury Club Membership, that was me to a tee.
“The thought of being here and getting a fully signed jersey by the team and Wayne was just fantastic and being able to mingle with the players.
“I just thought, ‘what an opportunity.’"
Kellie also relished the chance to meet other supporters and to see in flesh those who share the same passion for the Club.
“It’s great to be able to see the support that we do have," Kellie added.
“Not being from here, I don’t see it every day of the week.
“It is really great to see so many people here and even children as well, that’s awesome.”
