The Newcastle Knights will be back in hi-vis when they take on the St George Illawarra Dragons at Jubilee Oval this Saturday.
NSW Mining has proudly sponsored the Knights for the past four seasons and showcase the partnership through a unique hi-vis jersey.
The match against the Dragons on their home turf will see the Knights don the bright orange and navy kit that replicates mining workwear.
“The mining game and wearing the hi-vis is pretty special to me because I worked in the mines,” Knights winger Nathan Ross said.
“I know what it’s like to go out there and doing a 13 or 14 hour shift underground and to then come back up.
“It’s an industry that supported me when I was chasing my goal to become a footballer, so I hold it close to me."
NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said the jersey brings recognition to the valuable contribution Mining makes to the State’s economy as a whole.
“The Hunter’s coal miners share a strong connection with the Knights, with many past players and relatives of current players working along side the 11,000 other locals directly employed by the region’s mining industry,” Mr Galilee said.
“We are delighted to see so much bright orange in the crowd when the Knights wear the jersey, I encourage anyone attending the game at Jubilee this weekend to wear hi-vis and show your support of the industry.”
The Knights will take on the Dragons at 3pm on Saturday in Kogarah.
