Experienced forward Todd Lowrie, who had signed with the Newcastle Knights for season 2016, has announced his retirement.
The Newcastle junior made his debut for the Club in 2003 before going on to play for the Parramatta Eels, Melbourne Storm, New Zealand Warriors and the Brisbane Broncos for a total of 202 NRL games.
“I've been lucky enough to play in the NRL for a lot longer than I ever thought I would,” Lowrie said.
“I've played with some of the best players of all time, enjoyed some success and made plenty of lifelong friends along the way.”
Lowrie's career spanned 13 seasons, playing in two grand finals and winning one premiership in 2012.
“I'd really like to thank my family for making my dreams possible and my wife Sally who has followed me across states and countries and supported me through the good times and the bad, both on and off the footy field,” he added.
While Lowrie won’t join the Knights on field next season, he looks forward to taking on the Under 20s coaching role.
“I'm disappointed I won't get to wear the Knights jersey again but I'm excited to tackle the next chapter of my life and play a part in the future of the club,” the Knights junior said.
“I've played for some great clubs, learned a lot at every place I've been, and will take those lessons with me into my new role.”
Meanwhile, Nathan Brown confirmed Mick Potter and Danny Buderus will join his coaching staff following the official start of pre-season training on Thursday.
